I’d like to start off today’s entry by thanking both Win Lose or Draw and Peri’s Spice Ladle for nominating me for the One Lovely Blog Award:

Both Peri and Win Lose or Draw have amazing blogs – Peri’s fantastic recipes and the beautiful art on the Win Lose or Draw blog are well worth seeking out. Their continued support here on these pages means a lot and the nomination is a lovely surprise!

So in accordance with the rules:

The Rules of Acceptance:

  • Thank the person/people who nominated you and link back to them in your post
  • Share 7 things about yourself
  • Nominate 15 or so bloggers you admire
  • Contact your chosen bloggers to let them know

The seven things about myself:

1. My favourite ‘classic’ artists are Caravaggio and Magritte; my favourite illustrator varies, but I love Shirley Hughes.

2. My university dissertation subject was the study of how child characters, and the audience perception of children, are used in visual satire; it’s one of the things I’m proudest of having made/written, while also being a great way to look at my love of The Simpsons and Calvin & Hobbes in a new light.

3. I once met the legendary Alan Moore whilst dressed as a Christmas tree. He is a genuinely lovely man.

4. When drawing I almost always listen to music – my favourites to listen to are Radiohead, Neutral Milk Hotel and, to lighten the mood, The Lonely Island.

5. My favourite media to work in varies; I love biro at the moment, but next year I want to display more of my sculptures. I’d also like to improve my spray-paint technique, and pluck up the courage to try making an animation.

6. I don’t cook very often but I can do a mean Thai red curry, and I love to make baked strawberry cheesecake.

7. I originally come from a small town called Wellingborough. It’s not renowned for much, apart from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, and this year’s Britain’s Got Talent winners Ashley Butler and Pudsey.

The bloggers I would like to nominate for the award are:

I hope you find as much to love in these blogs as I do!

Today’s drawing is the Rorschach style spider I alluded to in the earlier Spider entry:

This one is definitely the less cute flipside to the earlier spider and more accurately reflects my fear of them – I can’t stand the creatures at all.

In other news I’d like to say thank you and give a first-time shout-out to art blogger Sarah at For the Love of the Art for following and liking Old Slippers and Tangled; check out her progressing art project, Beauty of the Beast, at the above link. I’d also like to give a first-time shout-out to Marney McNall for liking Hand of Kindness; take a look at her writings on volunteerism at her blog link. Further shout-outs go to Cynthia for returning and subscribing to the blog, and to Aaron and Nonoy Manga for also liking Old Slippers.
