Went back to pen again today with this sketch of a frayed rope:
I quite like the simplicity of this one, although I wish I’d done this in biro for a scratchier line quality; I might revisit this to try that approach, and compare and contrast.
In other news I’d like to thank Denis and Lailah at Chicquero for liking Maneki Neko; take a look at the stunning fashion photography on display at their blog link above. I’d also like to give another shout out to the brilliant illustrators Aaron at Our Process and Anna at Mouse Illustration for liking Maneki Neko.

a pretzel walks into a bar and ask the bartender for a drink. the bartender looks at the pretzel and says, “sorry, we don’t serve pretzels, here.” the pretzel leaves the bar and while outside, it unwinds itself so it looks more like a frayed rope. The pretzel then ties itself up into a knot. the pretzel walks back into the bar and asks the bartender for a drink. the bartender looks at the former pretzel and asks, “weren’t you just in here? arn’t you that pretzel?”
the pretzel looks at the bartender and replies, “i’m afraid not.” (a frayed knot)
